The Foundation offers financial assistance to low income patients through the subsidising of breast prostheses or assisting with the costs of post operative treatments for some patients who may not have insurance and may be unable to work. Wig Assistance Scheme
The Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation aims to assist people who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer in ways that are often specific to the individual. Virginia Rigby Scholarship
The Scholarship funds the educational needs of young disadvantaged children who have lost their mother to breast cancer or for children whose mothers are suffering financial hardship due to breast cancer treatment. The scholarship is named in honour of the Foundation’s founder, Virginia Rigby, who lost her battle with breast cancer in June 2004. Newcastle University Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation Scholarship
The Foundation support three students each year, who are enrolled in the NURS2163 course within the Bachelor of Nursing program.
Three scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded, based on:
- Academic merit, namely at least a credit average in first year courses
- A statement outlining how the applicant would benefit from receiving the scholarship and how it may contribute towards their future career aspirations
- Poster and presentation in NURS2163 Complementary Therapies in Health Care
