You may have recalled hearing about the Dick Smith Foods Foundation commitment to donate $1 million to charity in 2014. All participants had to do was take a photograph with any Dick Smith Foods product and text or email it to them with the nomination for the charity they wished to support. HBCF President Lisa Bartley led the charge and could often be seen around town and at events taking photos of people with their Dick Smith Foods products.

Throughout 2014, our supportive care program continued to support Hunter residents dealing with the effects of breast cancer. Our team of volunteer drivers carried out an average of 120 trips per month, assisting patients to and from their appointments for treatment. We have relied heavily on the same group of drivers over the past few years and we cannot thank them enough for the time they give to the Foundation and in particular, the care they show to our patients.

We are proud to announce that Hunter United have a new look credit card displaying their affiliation with the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation. Hunter United CEO, Steve Martinelli said that they were pleased to have the opportunity to support a great local charity. “HBCF are such important contributors to the local area through the support they offer people living in the Hunter with breast cancer,” Mr Martinelli said.

Newcastle Herald supported the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation once again this year, maintaining the partnership that has been developed over a number of years. Ross Melville, Marketing and Promotions Manager with Newcastle Herald, popped into a recent board meeting to say hello and it was a great chance for us to once again thank him for the ongoing support of the Foundation.

During October the Pacific Dunes Golf Club went over and above to help raise the profile of the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation as well as donating much needed funds. During the month they donated $2 from every paid round of golf and $1 from every mug of coffee as well as organising a golf day – with Kerrie-Anne Kennerley in attendance! A total of $4,617.95 was raised and donated to the Foundation.

In 2010 Newcastle Airport chose the Foundation as its Charity of Choice. That was the start of what can only be classed as an amazing partnership. In that short time since 2010, Newcastle Airport has led the charge to not only raise in excess of $175,000, but more than that they have significantly raised the profile of the Foundation in the local region.

Partnering with Master Builders Association and Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, the Foundation was pleased to be able to donate $18,000 and $20,000 respectively to Newcastle Private Hospital for a second scalp cooling machine, making it possible to offer four patients simultaneous cooling cap treatment. Newcastle Private Hospital was the first to offer this treatment in the Hunter Region and has been able to treat over 30 patients with the cooling cap technology since March.

Local people with breast cancer now have an additional way of travelling to and from treatment. On Friday, 14 November 2014 the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation took delivery of a new Subaru wagon that was provided through funding from Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation.
